A Wider Mission

What a fortnight it’s been here at TVC, since the Pagan & Esoteric Practitioner Census went live! We’ve had incredible feedback from all across the community, and we are making some small changes to the questionnaire to take that into account; we’ve also been pleased and grateful to hear from friends old and new who have offered to help with our mission

What we’ve also realised is that the initial aims of The Visible College when set up as a Community Interest Company might have been simultaneously precocious and limited; I confirmed last time that our Community Objects were listed as the advancement of religion for the public benefit because we support and advocate for minority faith groups, including but not limited to pagans, occultists, and other esoteric practitioners - but this isn’t all we aim to do, and TVC is not itself a religious organisation. This brings us to an unforeseen limiting factor, in that there are funding streams which cannot be accessed by religious groups, and we would better serve the community by widening our scope and being able to do a greater good throughout the UK.

All of this is to say, I’m giving notice that we are changing the objects of the organisation to the following:

In particular, the company’s activities will be carried on for the benefit of people from the widest range of backgrounds interested in improving themselves by exploring holistic subjects and taking part in activities that encourage self-exploration and  personal development.

We are likewise changing the activities of the organisation to the following:

1) Running a platform to support and promote self-exploration, personal development and learning.

[This will benefit] Those struggling to find others who share an interest in exploring alternative belief structures, develop friendship groups, support networks, and take part in activities both online and in person that provides a safe and nurturing space for self development.

2) Promoting social cohesion, togetherness and understanding across Society where people who follow alternative lifestyles, beliefs, and interests can be supported in building confidence, having a voice, and sharing with others in positive and affirmative activities, events, and festivals.

The Visible College will provide a platform where people can come together and share their own experiences and work together to develop their own solutions and coping strategies to move forward in their own lives. We will provide access to learning activities, workshops, events and festivals that promote involvement in traditional skills, heritage, the Arts, conservation, environment, access to nature and other such subjects as the community requests. We will also establish links with other networks in the voluntary sector, public services and with business to broker collaboration in community focused projects which enhance wellbeing and empower understanding and cohesion across communities.

Everything we have aimed to do is still on the cards, but this gives us the flexibility to respond to community needs as and when they arise. You’ll see some changes to the website as well to ensure we are offering the greatest good to the widest community.
